Announcements - UX writing
Here are some in-app announcements I wrote to promote awareness of new features with existing customers. Product marketers provided the tactics and messaging direction.
In this example I made the copy more user-friendly and aligned capitalization to our style guide. I positioned the limitations in a more instructional way rather than a barrier to entry that sounds exclusive. The link is more descriptive and accessible, and I removed the Done button to declutter, as it was just another way to close the modal.

Here I highlighted value for the customer rather than just describing what’s new. I tried to make it as short as possible, so as not to overwhelm with a block of text. I also simplified the description in the body by removing a lot of internal, technical jargon.
My research showed that the term ‘carousel’ was not known to most Instagram users, but it is a widely-used term in advertising and had caught on in a big way internally as the feature name. I had been successful in removing ‘carousel’ from UI and customer-facing documentation, and in socializing to most teams why we shouldn’t be using it, but finding an alternative name was tricky. The compromise for those stakeholders dear to ‘carousel’ was to include it in brackets.
